RE: Honda EV 6010 LP Generator

I had a EV4010 in our previous Class C on propane. It is a good generator but it is noisy. Its engine runs at a constant 3750 rpm and the high pitch whine coming from the cooling fans is very annoying. You will have five holes in the bottom of the generator compartment. One for radiator cooling air out, one for generator cooling air out, one for exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe cooling air and exhaust pipe out and if you have bottom muffler there will be two holes for the muffler support brackets to connect to the bottom of the generator. The cooling air will come in through a grille in the compartment door. Jim

RE: Can GPS learn preferred routes?

You don't want to use a GPS to route you on a trip when you know how to get there. It will drive you nuts (-; Jim

RE: Is 12 feet too far to run cable for a 2nd house battery?

It will work fine. Jim

RE: Diesel Coolant Thermostat

I would recommend you use a OEM Cummins thermostat. There is more to it than does it fit. Jim

RE: Is the 190 HP Cummins enough Horsepower/Torque?

FWIW there is a lot of wrong information in the post by KOG. Jim

RE: Deep Cycle Battery, Which Brand???

Just buy the largest battery that will fit the carrier and with the longest reserve capacity. CCA is not what you need or care about. A flooded lead acid battery will give you the most capacity for the available space. Trojan is good and expensive. Sams Club is good and not so expensive. Interstate batteries are well respected. AGM batteries are not a good option for your application unless you intend to do a lot of off-road high speed high vibration driving. Jim

RE: Koni Shocks

Bob b and others, FWIW I wanted to upgrade to Koni FSD shocks on my GS and they don't make one for it. I talked to Scott, customer service guy at Henderson Line Up, and he said that was not a problem. They deal with that issue all the time. He asked for some dimensions and came up with shocks that will work fine. They have to make things fit all the time he said. All that was needed was sleeve bushings to reduce the mounting hole diameter from 3/4" to 5/8". I put them on this morning and am anxious to get out and try them out. I also installed their air suspension sway control valves on all four air chambers. They are supposed to greatly reduce the extreme sway we get going in and out of curb cuts on a angle where the angle changes quickly. They are also supposed to reduce on road sway. We will see (-: I have also installed "Air-Tabs" on both sides and the roof AND a 9" lower below the bottom of the bumper air dam across the nose and down the sides to the front wheel openings. I haven't driven it since all these changes. I just can't leave things alone (-: Jim Does anyone know why my sig doesn't show on this post and does show on the one I made on another subject right after this one ?????

RE: Koni Shocks

I bought two from Henderson Line Up yesterday for $165.00 each. Jim

RE: E350 Rough Ride

Roger, From your description it sounds like your rear axle is simply overloaded. Not uncommon with long overhangs. You need to weigh the front and rear axles separately and compare the rear axle weight with the rear axle capacity. Jim

RE: Tow behind with lifted trucks, let's see

Those 35's are going to make a big change in your overall gear ratio. That change will not make your towing ability better (-:

RE: Is the 190 HP Cummins enough Horsepower/Torque?

The 5.9 12 valve Cummins engine (pre 98.5) can easily be uprated to a higher power rating and be totally safe and reliable. Talk to a independent diesel shop that works on Dodge - Cummins diesel engines-same engine. Uprating to 250hp is very easy and inexpensive. If it has the Allison AT542 like mine they warn that 230 hp is the limit for that transmission but that is not necessarily true. I uprated my '99 210 HP ISB to 275 HP-660 ft lbs torque and Allison tech support said if I put TES-295 spec transmission fluid (synthetic) in it and monitored transmission temperature it would be fine at that power level. RE: I have had it with my generac generator!!

Fred, I hate to bust your bubble but I had a Honda EV4010 and it was a long way from quiet! It turns a constant 3750 rpm and the high pitch whine noise from the cooling fans drove me nuts. Jim

RE: Weak Headlights

Take your volt meter and stick the probes into the plug in the back of the headlight. Probe the hot and ground wires in there. Read the voltage there then read the voltage across the chassis battery terminals and see now much voltage drop there is from the wiring harness. Often it is 1.5 to 2v. A aftermarket headlight relay kit will make the two voltages the same and make a big difference in your headlights. A fairly common issue. Jim

RE: 6.7l Cummins going to pull as good as my 300 Cat?

Just remember Torque X RPM = HP. Lots of torque is fine but Horsepower is what gets you to the top of the hill first. If you look at the rated maximum horsepower for each engine you will see the 6.7 turns a higher RPM than the Cat to reach its maximum thus more horsepower with lower torque. Jim

RE: What am I doing wrong with my Yamaha 2400?

Before you do major work on it get a can of Sea Foam and put some in the gas tank. I use more than they recommend for a stuborn carb issue like you sound like you are having. The stuff actually works. Jim

RE: Google Earth

The resolution quality on Google Earth varies quite a bit. Generally more populated areas seem to have higher res pictures than rural areas. I use MSN Virtual Earth also and sometimes one will have a higher res photo than the other of the same location. Jim

RE: Gas vx Diesel performance?

My GS with toad is 20,000 and my 5.9 ISB Cummins upgraded to 275 hp gets a consistant 10.5 mpg driving 60. Plenty of power. Wish I had more than a 4 speed. Jim

RE: Thoughts on transmisson temp

I recently asked Allison national tech support what they say about fluid temperature. Pan temperature 220 max continous. Out line to cooler 300 for 5 min max. The torque converter is the last place the fluid goes before it comes out to the cooler. My AT542 stays as cool as can be until I use the exhaust brake and then it heats up fast. I have my temp sender in the out line and it doesn't take too long to get to 300. Unfortunately it doesn't have a lock-up converter. They strongly recommended TES-295 spec fluid (synthetic). Jim
